Founded in 1902, Nanjing University (NJU) is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning and research in China. NJU currently consists of four campuses: Xianlin, Gulou, and Pukou in Nanjing, as well as the Suzhou campus. The Medical School has a rich and illustrious history, dating back to its inception in 1925 as the Medical School of National Central University. It has 142 professors, 207 associate professors, and hosts several world-famous research platforms, such as the National Clinical Research Center for Chronic Kidney Disease, the National Resource Center for
Genetically Engineered Mice and the Key Laboratory of Model Animal and Disease Research of the Ministry of Education.
The School of Life Sciences, originating in 1914 as China’s first university biology department, is one of the nation’s oldest institutions dedicated to life sciences research and education. The school currently has 53 professors and 47 associate professors. It is also home to several national and provincial research platforms, including the State Key
Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
The Suzhou Campus, launched in 2023, is located in the Suzhou High-Tech Zone. This cutting-edge campus emphasizes intelligence, ecology, and internationalization, providing an ideal environment for global talent. NJU plans to expand its enrollment to 12,000 students across all bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degree programs. In 2025, the campus will inaugurate School of Robotics and Automation, School of Biomedical Engineering, School of Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing, integrating world-class academic and industrial resources to cultivate future leaders.
